Summary: The Ibanez MC Musician series was one of several designs launched by Ibanez following the lawsuit era of the early '70s. Here is your chance to own a fine-looking, sweet-playing example of the golden age of Japanese guitar-building.
Body: Three-layer construction- mahogany core with ash on top and back. Dark stain.
Neck: 5-ply (rock maple and black walnut) Thru-Body. Ebonized rosewood fingerboard with abalone dot inlays. Half bone/half brass nut. Brass truss rod cover. 24 “Velve touch” frets. 24 3/4” scale. 1 5/8” nut.
Pickups/Hardware: Super 88 Tri Sound pickups. Three pickup toggle on upper horn. Two volume and two tone. Two Tri Sound mini-toggles (humbucker, single coil, two coils in parallel). Heavy gold plated hardware. Adjustable locking Gibraltar bridge mounted on inlaid sustain block. Cloud-style Gibraltar tail piece with straight slots. “Velve tune II” tuners.
Cosmetics: This guitar is in excellent shape. There is minor playwear to the finish and to the brass control cavity covers on the back. The gold hardware has worn over time and there is a small amount of pitting on the bridge. Original frets show very little wear.
Playability: The neck-thru construction makes this guitar resonant and well-balanced (both tonally and physically). The neck is fast but not as thin as later Ibanez “Wizard” necks; it feels familiar to a hand more accustomed to 60s style Gibsons. The tall, wide frets make bends a breeze. The variety of sounds available via the Tri Sound switching system are amazing: from glassy Strat to Tele twang to LP chunk. If you’re a gigging guitarist, this is the Swiss Army knife you need in your tool kit.
