Description: Kay Kay Kraft Model A Model Arch Top Acoustic Guitar, c. 1932, made in Chicago, sunburst lacquer with stenciling finish, laminated mahogany body, mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard. A good example of the original Kay line of "Venetian" bodied round hole archtops; this mahogany-bodied guitar was in lowest and by far most popular of a 3-guitar line, original price $25.00. This is a moderately fancy guitar with triple bound sunburst top, single bound back and fingerboard. There is an elaborate gold stencil decoration on the top and pickguard, similar to earlier Lyon & Healy work. Dark sunburst mahogany finish on the neck, back and sides. The bolt on adjustable neck has a huge wing nut on neck block, which actually works quite well for setting the action although a short-lived feature. Original open back 3-on-a-plate tuners with white plastic buttons. The white pearloid headstock is adorned with a gold-painted raised "Kay Kraft" logo and edge decoration. A very well-made and attractive depression-era instrument with a very punchy sound.Overall length is 40 in. (101.6 cm.), 14 3/8 in. (36.5 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 3/4 in. (9.5 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.). A good playing example, all original including the seldom-seen adjustable Bakelite bridge. General wear overall but no major damage or repair, nice chunky sound. Generally Excellent Condition.
