  • Description: Dick Knight Imperial 17'' Electric Archtop. This is an extremely rare electric version of the famed Imperial made by the late Dick Knight, who was maker and repairer of guitars for 50 years. It has a close grained spruce top, fashioned utilising a unique method whereby the parallel braces are carved as part of the top and not added later. The back and sides are formed from solid highly flamed Sycamore which being an incredible tonewood gives the guitar a highly individual acoustic sound. The neck is of an extraordinary 17 piece construction with a 10 piece heel which was Dick Knights signature and whilst being cosmetically exciting also gives the neck immense strength. The neck and headstock inlays are M.O.P and Abalone. The neck relief is perfect and the playing action is very low.The overall condition is 9.5/10.The acoustic sound is great and plugged in the guitar is similar in tone to an L 5,nice and warm, with lots of treble when needed, there is no sign of feedback even at higher volume. All in all a great, very rare guitar, very collectable and extremely playable. Dick Knight is regarded as one of the greatest luthiers of all time. There's plenty of info on the net if you want to do some research but basically Dick was luthier to a great many stars of the 60's & 70's, including Paul McCartney, Pete Townshend, Mike Rutherford amongst many others. Linda McCartney even had Dick make Paul a special guitar for his birthday one year! This is one of the best archtops in the shop and has better tone and clarity than all the Gibson L5's except the special ones made in the early 1960's
