  • Description: Canada’s John LaCroix masterfully builds steel string guitars in his St. Thomas, Ontario, shop. Offered here is a brand new 000 sized 12 fretter with Imbuya back and sides, and a bearclaw Sitka spruce top. For LaCroix, the beauty is in the details, and this instrument is high on details. From the skillfully mitered purflings, to the fine aluminum detail in the rosette, no expense was spared in the creation of this guitar. Nine-piece birds-eye maple and applewood neck, with 5 ply rear headstock overlay and rosewood front. Rosewood fingerboard with pearl dots and matching pyramid bridge. The rosette features spalted maple with black and aluminum trim. Inside the guitar, LaCroix’s meticulously laminated and carved back braces are the first thing you’d notice looking in the soundhole; and his scalloped top braces are carved perfectly. The neck scale is 25.4”, and the carve is full but modern in feel, with a nut width of 1-13/16”. Fretwork and setup are spot on, bringing a playing experience that matches the guitar’s fine looks. A very fine sounding guitar, reminiscent of a 20’s Martin 000-18 with built-in echo and openness.
