Description

SN: None. One of the highest forms of parlor guitar expression, Larson Brothers could build with the best of them. This Stahl Special Solo Style 7 is a fine example. With its Adirondack spruce top, Brazilian rosewood back and sides, and meticulous pearl inlay, it is roughly the equivalent of a Martin 0-42. This one was built around 1929. It’s X-braced with scalloped tone bars and a 25” scale. The sound hole is inlaid with Japanese pearl and numerous rings of fancy colored wood and bound with celluloid. Both the front and back edges are bound with celluloid; the top edge is elaborately inlaid with more pearl and fancy colored wood. The Brazilian has some nice figuring and a fancy Morse code inlaid stripe down the back. The flattened pyramid bridge is made of ebony with abalone inlayed in a clover. The fretboard is bound ebony with inlaid with diamonds and an interesting scroll at the tenth fret. It’s beautiful to look at, fun to play and projects with the best small-bodied parlor guitars of the era. The neck has been reset, the frets appear to be original but in excellent shape. The action is low with plenty of saddle. The guitar rings as it should up and down the neck with a full sound that belies its size and depth. It’s on consignment in the shop so I’m happy to answer any and all questions. Please email or call for additional information. Comes in a newer Martin Gieb style hard shell case. This year at Wintergrass, Fretboard Journal held a vintage guitar workshop with Julian Lage and Chris "Critter" Eldridge. FBJ requested I bring this guitar. In the attached video, courtesy FBJ, Critter plays the Larson. Stay tuned for a future video with Julian playing.
