  • Year: 1996

  • Model: D-18V Custom

  • Description: New Lower Price!! Why do I think a Martin Custom Shop Guitar is of higher quality that a standard production line Guitar? The woods are hand selected by one of the few Custom Shop builders and then hand-built by Martin's best luithers. The normal build time for a Custom Shop Martin is 6-8 Months, sometimes longer. This D-18 VM Custom was Special Ordered by the original and only owner specifying many upgrades and making this instrument one-of-a-kind. I have the original Martin Custom Order Quote/Build Sheet on the instrument as well. 1st I’ll say The Mahogany on the Back, Sides & Neck are tight grain, high quality woods. From the spec sheet: *Top: Spruce (Select), (the Top is Sitka) Grade: 7/8, Rosette: D-18 (Old Style), Top Bracing Pattern: D-OMLE, Top Braces: Scalloped 5/16”. *Back & Sides: Mahogany 2 Pc, Purfling: D-18, EndPc: Tortoise, *Binding: Tortoise. *Neck: Shape- V-Shape (Modified), Adj Truss Rod, Headstock: Solid/Square/Tapered, *Headplate: I. RW, Old Large Decal, *Fingerboard: Ebony, Bone Nut @ 1 ¾”, 14 Fret, 2 ¼” @ 12th, D-18 Old Style Abalone Inlay. *Finish: Body- Polished Lacquer/Dark Mahog. , Top-Aging Toner, Neck –Dark Mahog Stain. *Bridge: Ebony Belly Style with Long Bone Saddle, Spacing 2 5/16”. *Machines: Gotoh Butter Bean Chrome. *Under Other Instructions: Bone Nut & Saddle/ Install Maple Strip on Inside of Rear Block. Note: I recently Special Ordered a Martin for a customer and requested this Maple End Strip, Martin refused to install it. The only way to get this end strip is buy an Authentic Series. Fingerboard looks unplayed. Dec 12 1996 handwritten on center backstripe inside. One tiny ping in the top and a small area of light “indentions-pings ” on the back near the bottom, and some scratches on the pickguard. Light as a feather, rings like a bell, thumps like a hollow log. Lots of case candy original paperwork. This is a lot of guitar for the $$$.
