  • Description: The Marquis series offers all the design elements of C.F. Martin & Co.’s Golden Era instruments, but substitutes Indian Rosewood for Brazilian Rosewood; making the Marquis guitars significantly less expensive, and simpler to ship across the US/Canada border. Martin doesn’t ship Golden Era and Authentics outside of the USA anylonger, so in Canada and abroad the D-28 Marquis is the highest-level Style 28 available. A remarkable guitar, with jaw-dropingly good tone, stunning looks, and a wonderful feel, we’d put the D-28 Marquis against most any D-28, new or vintage. The model proves, unequivocally that C.F. Martin is still at the top of their game, well into the twenty first century. Apart from the body outline, little else is the same between the D-28 Marquis and its closest cousin, the HD-28V. From the headstock logo to the bridgeplate’s and braces shapes , the D-28 Marquis was designed to emulate the looks, feel, and tone of a mid-1930’s Dreadnought. Golden Era scalloped, forward shifted Adirondack spruce braces, Adirondack spruce top, Indian rosewood back and sides. Vintage-style Herringbone purflings (they are a bit thinner and less bold than the Vintage Series Herringbone), grained ivoroid bindings, zig-zag back strip, gloss Nitrocellulose lacquer finish with 1935 sunburst top. 1935 profile ebony bridge and fingerboard with long-pattern vintage diamond and square inlays. Fossil ivory angled bottom nut, glued-in through-saddle, and black-dot bridge pins; polished, beveled edge pickguard. Vintage-inspired modified V neck carve, 1-3/4” wide at the nut, 1930’s style ‘Dart’ volute, 1930’s style decal logo, Gotoh SE-700 open geared tuners with vintage finish, C.F. Martin & Co. stamp on the headstock rear. An exceptional guitar, sure to become a classic. With Geib style 545E hardshell case
