Description

McPherson has completely re-engineered the acoustic guitar as we know it. The most significant (and obvious) changes include the offset sound hole and the cantilevered neck joint found on McPherson models. Both of these changes significantly improve the sound board's ability to vibrate. This MG 4.0 XP was built in 2013 and has a nicely figured Bear Claw Sitka Spruce top matched up with back and sides made of Black Hearted Sassafras. While not currently subject to CITES restrictions, Black Hearted Sassafras is a relatively scarce species of tone wood native to Tasmania. It is known for it's striking beauty, light weight and strength and has tone characteristics which some describe as somewhere between the warmth of mahogany and the brightness of maple. This is a large body guitar with a 16" lower bout and it has a huge voice. To my ear, the tone is nicely balanced with lots of mid-range punch. The neck is a very soft V and quite sleek, with a depth of .830" at the first fret. The guitar comes from the factory with three drop-in bone saddles of varying heights so you can easily modify the setup to your liking. Factory installed electronics include a superb LR Baggs system with built in pre-amp and volume control. This amazing guitar is currently setup with the lowest height saddle and with Elixir Nano .12's. This 2013 guitar is in near mint condition with virtually nothing in the way of noticeable flaws and the frets look like new as well. It comes in a top-of-the-line Ameritage humidifier case, with a sound hole cover, three drop-in bone saddles and all the original paperwork. A new example of this guitar is available from a Florida dealer for $8,800. You can have this near new beauty for substantially less. If you haven't tried a McPherson, you are missing out on a great new guitar design. If you've previously played a McPherson, you already know what all the hype is about!
