  • Description: National Avalon Model 1134 Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (1957), made in Chicago, serial # X-76240, natural top, dark back and sides finish, laminated maple body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, original black hard shell case. This extremely rare National Avalon solidbody was only available for a year or two, and marks a very interesting transition between the early small-body Valco solids and the more popular styles (Town & Country, Glenwood) that followed. With a chambered maple body, "stylist" adjustable-pitch neck, multiple binding and fancy block inlay the Avalon is a fairly fancy guitar. With 2 powerful Valco pickups and a very simple wiring rig (1 switch, 2 knobs-later Nationals are much more complex!) it is also a great sounding one capable of a sharp twang and some flat-out raunch when pushed. One of the 1950's coolest unsung solidbodies and a great find in a unique vintage National electric.Overall length is 37 3/4 in. (95.9 cm.), 12 1/4 in. (31.1 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 7/8 in. (4.8 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 1/2 in. (622 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.). All original, some gentle wear overall, finish chipping mostly to the unbound back body edge. One small repaired grain crack on the top, near the lead pickup. Excellent straight neck, a very good playing 1950's National solidbody. Includes a nice rectangular OHSC. Excellent Condition.
