Sitting high atop the heap of cool off-brand 1950s American-built guitars are these New York manufactured Premier models. This one is a late 1950s Bantam Deluxe custom single pick-up model that has a two tone amber sunburst finish with maple top back and sides. It features sparkled control knobs and sparkled pick guard that give it a unique and distinctive personality. The binding on the neck and sides of the body is in great shape with only moderate yellowing. The white end heel cap appears to have shrunk and is starting to crumble a bit but the neck is still firmly in place. All the parts look to be completely original including the unique stairstep tail piece that has a great deco look to it. There is a serial number of 3659 with the “Multivox” metal tag on the back of the headstock. It has a plastic plaque over the normal Premier torch motif that says “Leo Grande Special” (possibly a store’s attempt. Though these look like small or student size guitars they are professional grade models with a big sound! The body is 13” across and 2.75” deep with a 25” neck scale. The neck profile radius is a small to medium V-shape with a nut width of 1 and 10/16th” that makes it very easy to maneuver. There are 20 original small/medium frets on the rosewood neck that are fairly well worn towards the treble side and may require a full replacing in the near future. There are a few nicks on the back of the neck and some minor dings on the body with one on the cutaway, all moderate wear to be expected with a guitar of it's age. The single white Dearmond single coil pickup has a great tone with a two position selector (for getting bass-like tones). The neck is still set at a good angle with some room for adjustment at the bridge. The finish is still vibrant with just enough wear and checking to give it a warm but not worn vintage vibe. Overall it plays easy and has a good look and a big sound that will be sure to please any early rock and roll/ rockabilly/ jazz and blues fan!
PLEASE NOTE: the pickguard that is on the guitar in the pictures has been removed and is not included with this guitar. We will update our pictures of the guitar as soon as possible.
