Description: This all original 1967 Rickenbacker solid body twelve string guitar is finished in fireglow. Rickenbacker's solid body 456-12 was first introduced in 1966 and was discontinued in 1976. This twelve string guitar has a string converter, also known as a "sliding comb", that when pulled down disengages the octave strings with a single movement changing the twelve string guitar into a six string instrument. The metal comb and long hinged arm is on a chrome bracket stamped "PAT PEND" located on a blue plastic base between the two piece white pickguard. The converter was designed by James Gross of Glenview IL. This neck through guitar has a maple body and neck. The 22 fret neck has a scale length of 24 3/4" with a rosewood fretboard and 1 5/8" nut width. The guitar weighs 7.4 pounds. Other features include two single coil toaster pickups, individual tone and volume knobs for each pickup, a three way selector switch, and Kluson three on a side mounted tuners. Overall the 456-12 is in nice condition for this vintage. There are a few dings in the finish and the fretboard show some wear above the first fret. The frets have minimal wear and the neck is straight with nice action. There have been no repairs or changes to this guitar. While the unique converter takes some time to get accustomed to, it works as good as it did when new. Mike Pender of the British group "The Searchers" best known for the song "Pins and Needles" played a Rickenbacker 456-12 guitar. It comes with a new Rickenbacker black hardshell case.
