Description

Have you ever imagined yourself playing an instrument that has been in the hands John Lennon, Roy Orbison, George Harrison and Pete Townshend? This
time capsule exudes vintage vibes from the headstock, the sought-after tulip bodystyle, right down to the nuances, such as the metal, circular strap pin retainer engraved with the serial number -- absolutely unbelievable! This guitar is the embodiment of originality; Rickenbacker wanted to make a practical, exciting, new instrument that wasn't a copy of any Gibson, Gretsch or Fender guitar on the market. The cutaway, neck-through construction and retro flare has made the instrument a raging success to this day. To top it all off, this guitar is incredibly light, weighing in at only 6lbs 5oz!

We purchased this guitar from the original owner's daughter in Rural Illinois. This one owner gem is 100% original and has been unplayed for the last 22 years. The guitar is 100% original and in fabulous condition. It is missing a couple pickguard screws and comes with the original case. The pickups have a killer low wind vintage blues tone that you just can't get anywhere else! Additional photos below including photos of the electronics.

Only 21 of the color Cloverfield Green were shipped from the factory, of the 90 made in that year of production. This 13 inch wide Rickenbacker has a one piece maple neck with Brazilian rosewood fretboard (21 medium to thin frets). Other features include a white tulip-shaped backplate, two "toaster" single-coil pickups in bridge and neck positions, gold color anodized bridge cover and pickguard, two black bakelite control knobs for volume and tone, a pickup selector switch, and a six-saddle bridge. There are minor wear marks to the edges of the body, as pictured.

Here is an excerpt from Richard R. Smith's book that details the history and development of Rickenbacker instruments:

"The first Combos were just a taste of the new direction the company headed, trailblazing philosophies of guitar technology and construction. Rick solid bodies combined several significant innovations. The extreme cutaway, first used on the Combo solid bodies, combined a flare for style with a concern for utility. Neck-through-body construction, used on most models between 1957 and 1970, was the ultimate manifestation of the solid guitar. With these Rickenbackers, there were no bolts or glue joints on the plane between the end pin and peghead. The design enhanced the instrument's tone and sustain."
