Description: Tony Rice is the master of contemporary Bluegrass guitar. He has enhanced his traditional background with influences ranging from Clarence White to John Coltrane, thereby creating a style that demands more from a guitar than most Dreadnoughts can offer. Tony's legendary 1935 D-28, previously owned by Clarence White, served as the model for an instrument that combines the bass presence of the old D-28, but with the more substantial midrange and treble response needed by Tony Rice for his modern acoustic style. The sophisticated tone in the higher ranges of this guitar will inspire flatpickers to explore new territory. The current Santa Cruz Tony Rice Model is the result of a twenty-five year collaboration with Tony Rice, and is the epitome of the contemporary Bluegrass guitar. The instrument’s light build, modified scalloped bracing, 4-1/4”enlarged soundhole, and slightly thinner body depth (about 1/4” thinner than a Martin D-28) are the heart of its tonal signature. Fine Indian Rosewood back and sides, Sitka Spruce top, Ivoroid bound body and ebony fingerboard, ebony bridge and headstock overlay. Single-piece mahogany neck with a vintage soft V profile, style 28 headstock volute, and 1-11/16" nut. With Ameritage hardshell case
