Now for the back story:
Santa Maria Mahogany is a Med-High density Hard wood with rich, beautiful coloration and graining. Santa Maria (Calophyllum Brasiliense) grows naturally throughout areas of South and Central America. It is also kown as Jacraeuba and Bella Maria. It was used by the natives in the early 1900s to build boats from, because of it’s water tolerant characteristics.
Bill Tippin acquired this wood when he was building, and repairing Boats in his younger days. When he started Making guitars he re-sawed the lumber, and began crafting guitars out of it. He has held onto this particular set for many years, waiting for the special occasion to create something wonderful from it.
The tone is very similar to Cuban , warm and rich, and Is a sub species of Cuban. It is very hard to get the old dense quarter Sawn Santa Maria any more, because of the over use with Yachts and Furniture through the years. We are very fortunate to be able to offer it here, in the form of this exquisite, handmade Tippin Guitar.
