Description

Freshly set up in-house by our esteemed Guitar Tech, this vintage Truetone Vanguard is ready to go to a new home. In Fair condition with the expected wear and tear of an instrument of this age. The Black finish is scratched, worn, and faded but the original Truetone medallion is still affixed to the headstock. Truetone guitars were sold by Western Auto Stores back in the day, and most were manufactured by Kay as we believe this one to be.

Western Auto was founded in 1909 and went through many owners and iterations until its demise in the early 2000s. During the 1960s, Western Auto, like many department stores and retailers, cashed in on the teenage guitar craze by selling electric guitars and amps. Factoid: one of the founders of Western Auto, George Pepperdine, later went on to found Pepperdine University.

This short-scale guitar has a P-90 pickup installed in the bridge position. The original pickups are no longer with the guitar. A Grateful Dead sticker has been applied where the neck pickup used to live. It's a funky and cool piece of Americana that still functions and would be a fun project guitar a collector with basic luthier skills. Sold As-Is. See below for more details and specifications. Please feel free to contact us for additional information.

NOTE TO OUR VALUED CUSTOMERS:

We want you to be happy with your purchase and we try to represent the condition of all used and vintage products as accurately as possible in our listings. Every used guitar shows some signs of play wear and vintage models even more so. We call out all areas of damage or unusual wear, and describe the overall condition based upon what is "normal" for the age of the instrument. Expect to see minor dings, finish checking, or other evidence of normal use and aging which may not be captured by photography or explicitly mentioned in the listing.

We recognize that everyone has their own personal standard of what constitutes acceptable wear and tear. If play wear is especially critical for you, please contact us at the Shop for a complete in-hand description and to answer any questions you may have. Your satisfaction is of paramount importance to us.
