Description: This Whyte Laydie No. 2 plectrum banjo was made by the Vega Company in Boston MA. It appears to be all original except the 11" Ludwig head and the wood bridge. The neck is two piece maple with a stripe down the middle that looks like walnut or ebony. It has 22 frets, a 26 1/2" scale and is 1 3/16" at the nut. The serial number on the ring and dowel are matching. The ivoroid bound ebony fretboard has nine pearl dot inlays in six positions with an inlaid pearloid star at the fifth fret. There is a star on the headstock as well. The Whyte Laydie weighs 7.0 lbs. The overall length is 37" and the depth 2 3/4. Other features include the original geared tuners with ivoroid buttons, a "no-knot" tailpiece, Whyte Laydie tone ring, 28 notched hooks, and a maple dowel stick. There are two rings of decorative tortoise celluloid on both interior rims. There is a little wear on the nickel arm rest with brass peaking through, minor fret wear, a slight bend in the middle hook that anchors the tailpiece, a little finish wear on the back of the neck and rim. This Whyte Laydie is structurally sound and has a crisp, full and balanced tone. On a scale of one to ten we rate this a nine. It comes with a new case.
