The pots date 137 825 (original 1958) and 304 6422 (changed 1964) The pickup and all other electronics are original. The original masking tape for the wires is still there. There’s a lot of wear and some finish has chipped off on the back of the neck. The frets and board show wear, but they’re in pretty good shape. One pot has been changed and the pick guard is missing. A strap button was added at the base of the neck. There looks to be a bit of glue at the back of the neck/body joint. It’s possible that the neck was re-set, but I don’t think so. Most 481’s have slanted frets and chrome pickup covers, but this one has straight frets and black covers. This guitar is not mint, but it’s in nice shape. There is a lot of checking, and some minor nicks and dings. There’s some fret wear. There’s what looks to be some red ink on the front of the headstock. The body has been re-bound, and the finish was touched up around the new bindings. The neck may or may not have been re-set, but the bass plays well and there is room to raise or lower the action as desired. Many of these old Gretsch basses have super high action and require a neck re-set. A few of the knobs were changed. Electronics and mute system are original and working. Some belt buckle rash, nicks and dings. Good bass.

Not many were made in GoldBurst, and of all the guitars I’ve owned, this is only my second. This guitar has been played. You can see the finish wear on the back of the neck. There’s a spot in the middle, and on both treble and bass sides. There’s a spot on the front of the body, too. There’s some scratching or something on the pickguard. There’s pick scratches. It still has the clay dots, and the Oly white has been factory sprayed over Desert Tan. This is original Fender, though. Has the larger bridge/tail. There are many nicks and dings, paint chips and checking. There is not much wear on the frets and fingerboard. The switches are balky, but they work. Both pickups are gray bobbins. It does have the bad binding issue that virtually all of them have. The binding is cracked and chipping away. The guitar shows very little play wear. Some of the gold hardware is really clean, but some of it (pickguard bracket and one strap button) is really rusty. Those parts could easily be changed out. Some of the gold has some green on it. Still a very clean, original and nice guitar. Case is clean, too. (EX+)

It has the desirable “bigger” single coil pickup. There are nicks, dings and checking, but no cracks or anything out of the ordinary for a guitar this age. The frets and Brazilian rosewood fingerboard are in great shape. A couple of the tuner buttons are bent. I can’t read the pot codes, but the pots are original and the bumble bee cap is there. The bridge, truss rod cover, knobs and strap buttons have been changed, all else is original. 22 3/4 inch scale nut width ...

This one has HEAVY checking to the point where some of the finish has flaked off. The bridge is not original which is common on these. The tuners are an old set of ”Ping Deluxe” which are nearly identical to the original Kluson deluxe. Same footprint, no extra holes. The frets and fingerboard are in good shape and the guitar plays and sounds well. Case is not original.

There are many nicks and dings, some gouges, and the deep lacquer checking that is so common to 60’s and 70’s Vox. There are several extra screw holes due to strap button re-positioning. There are two cracks in the ebony fingerboard. One runs from the nut to the third fret and the other is located between the 4th and 5th fret. Original case is in rough shape too. So, it’s had a rough life, but still plays and sounds well.

Incredible lutherie skills and beautiful woods here. Plays well. Frets and fingerboard are in nice shape. Full electronics sound great. Although the serial number starts with 83, the two legible pots date late 1985, so, I’m guessing those pots were changed. It’s pretty hard to date these exactly, but I have been told this bass dates 1979. This bass is clean. There are some small nicks and dings, and there’s substantial belt buckle worming. Cooler short horn variant. 3...

It has a small volute, but no “Made in USA” stamp on the back of the head, so I think it was probably made in early 1970. The Gibson Shipment Totals book shows 938 Juniors made in 1970, and, to the best of my knowledge, no more all mahogany juniors were made until the late 80’s/early 90’s when they made the first reissues. I can’t date the pots because they’re covered with original solder, but I do believe that this ...

It has normal nicks, dings and checking. A few scratches and a small coiled cable impression. Minimal buckle wear. The finish has yellowed into a great creamy color. The pickguard has a couple of cracks and is lifted at one corner due to shrinkage of the guard over time. The tuners show rust, but the nickel bridge and tail are in pretty good shape.
