Offered for sale:

Used c1989 48th Street Custom serial number 10054.

This guitar is in very good condition, neck and frets are fine. Cosmetically there are some marks and nicks about the body, showing playing time but not abuse.

About 48th Street Custom, there is much written about the nature of this operation, here are some previously published highlights:

In 1975 Hisatake Shibuya opened a shop in Tokyo named Electronic Sound Products (ESP) offering guitar replacement parts for sale. In 1976 after gaining market respect for its high-quality replacement parts, ESP began building its own line of guitars branded “ESP” and “Navigator” in Japan. Ron Wood was one of the first players of these guitars. 1983, ESP replacement parts were offered in the USA out of a loft on 19th Street in New York City. 1983/1985, ESP luthiers started building custom guitars out of this location for NYC players. 1989, ESP moved its operations to 48th Street.

We have found many versions regarding the exact details of 48th Street Custom, it’s been stated that they were ESP’s custom shop; others state that they were an independent full-service guitar operation with wood shop and spray booths, cutting bodies and building anything imaginable if you could afford it. There has been talk of prototypes being built and some big names such as Vernon Reid and George Lynch playing these instruments. If the definitive history of 48th Street Custom ever gets written, it should a good read.

This guitar is crafted in a straight ahead stratocaster style, it plays well and sounds like it should. Interesting part of custom guitar folklore and a nice piece at that!

Hard shell case included.

“We carefully inspect every instrument when we buy it and bring it up to our standards before we offer it for sale. We also do a full set up before we ship. If you decide to purchase this guitar, please let us know what gauge strings you prefer.”

*Please note: we do our best giving descriptions of used pieces. We have found it impossible to describe every mark on an instrument or amp that is not in the "mint" category. Also, what's important to you may not be important to someone else. For example, you may say, "I don't care what it looks like as long as it plays or sounds well." Another person may say, "Body cosmetics are very important to me so tell me about every scratch, nick and blemish." So, please ask the questions that are most important to you. If you ask they will be answered. They are free and there's no limit. Additional photos can also be made available.

This is a specific item that is also being offered for sale in our brick & mortar location. It is possible that it has just been sold. Please ask if it is still available before purchasing.

*It is our policy to require a signature on delivery of all musical instruments. Please let us know if you prefer no signature required when ordering or we will automatically require a signature.

If you prefer your item to be sent without a required signature Imperial Guitar and the selected carrier can no longer be responsible for the security of the package once it has been delivered.
