This bass is awesome. 1976 Fender Jazz Bass with Bartolini Pickups, refinished in Walnut.
I received this bass with the finish 90% stripped off, so I brought it into Jacobs Guitars to refinish it in the original walnut color, and clean it up. Tom Jacobs did an awesome job refinishing it in a period correct way, and then relicing it so the look would match the age. It holds up nicely against those with the same finish from a similar age!
The pickups where swapped for Bartolni pickups. I got the bass with these pickups installed, and here is what I figured out.
-The bridge pickup is a full sized humbucker
-The middle pickup is a single coil sized humbucker
-The top switch is a 3 way that switches the middle pickup between series, parallel, and single coil
-The lower switch is a 2 way, which is a coil split for the bridge pickup
As well as the finish and electronics modification, it looks like they added a fretboard on top of what was already there and redid the neck binding. Definitely an odd choice but it works well.
This bass is pretty heavy, coming in at 10 pounds, 13.7 oz
Super great player and looks awesome in person, its just waiting to be used and enjoyed!
Being that it is a vintage instrument, it shows plenty cosmetic wear such as dings, dents, scratches, ect. As previously noted, the finish was aged to reflect the same.
