Description

Offered for sale; c1964 Ampeg Echo Twin ET-1-B serial number 404767.

This amp is in very good condition, fully functional, cosmetically nice showing the usual discoloration and surface pitting of the control panel. Both speakers are Jensen C12R’s but one is probably not original since it’s a 1962 and the terminals have been re-soldered.

Ampeg's stereo amplifiers were made from Nov. 1961 to 1964, and were originally marketed to jazz guitarists and accordionists. They are a real find for Blues players too. The Echo Twin is essentially two Reverbrocket amps put together. Each 15 watt amp has a separate power supply, fuse and solid-state rectifier. The controls consist of tone and volume for each channel, vibrato depth and speed, reverb depth and a channel selector switch. Tube configuration is power amp 4 x 7591A (2 per channel), pre-amp is 4 x 6SL7 (2 per channel). Original 2 button footswitch is included.

We all expect great tone from ‘60s Ampegs but the features on the Echo Twin are like no other amp made, ever, by anyone.

In Echo mode one amp at 15 watts does the dry signal with tremolo and the other amp, also at 15 watts, does only the reverb signal with its own tremolo. With or without tremolo this gives a wonderful ambiance and spaciousness to the sound.

When the tremolo is activated on the dry channel and the reverb is on (or off) the tremolo sounds like you would expect, lush and deep.

When the tremolo is off on the dry channel and the reverb is on with the tremolo activated on the reverb channel, the pulsing of the tremolo in effect turns the reverb into an echo.

When both tremolos are on, the ping ponging and swooping of the tremolo will induce visions.

Leaving the “echo” mode gives you a 30 watt 2x12” amp. It can also be used as 2 separate 15 watt guitar amps.

The Echo Twin is remarkably versatile and sounds equally good with a guitar equipped with single coil or humbucking pickups.

Its sonic potential stretches from blues to jazz making the ET-1-B one of the finest guitar amps ever to come out of Ampeg's Linden NJ factory.

Very collectable and very playable.

As always with Ampegs it’s got tone forever.

*Please note: we do our best giving descriptions of used pieces. We have found it impossible to describe every mark on an instrument or amp that is not in the "mint" category. Also, what's important to you may not be important to someone else. For example, you may say, "I don't care what it looks like as long as it plays or sounds well." Another person may say, "Body cosmetics are very important to me so tell me about every scratch, nick and blemish." So, please ask the questions that are most important to you. If you ask they will be answered. They are free and there's no limit. Additional photos can also be made available.
This is a specific item that is also being offered for sale in our brick & mortar location. It is possible that it has just been sold. Please ask if it is still available before purchasing.
*It is our policy to require a signature on delivery of all musical instruments. Please let us know if you prefer no signature required when ordering or we will automatically require a signature.
