Offered is another fabulous example of playable fine art from the bench of master craftsman and luthier, Matt Artinger. Each guitar that Matt builds is a one-of-a-kind instrument. This magnifcent Semi-Hollowbody Custom was built in 2006 and is in superb condition.
This guitar has a semi-hollow Mahogany body topped with a fabulous flame Maple top. The body is 13.25" wide at the lower bout and is approximately 1.75" deep. It has a short (25") string scale, 22 frets, medium fret wire and a 1.6875" nut width. The Mahogany neck is reinforced with carbon fiber and has a medium C shape with depth measurements of .863" at the first fret, increasing to .901" at the twelfth fret. It utilizes an archtop style floating bridge and tailpiece. The electronics include two Duncan '59 humbucking pickups, master volume, master tone and a 3-way toggle switch. The guitar has a total weight of just 6.2 pounds. The body, fingerboard, Cats Eye style F-hole, headstock and the joint cap are bound in grained ivoroid. The fingerboard, bridge, floating tailpiece, pickup rings, headstock overlay and control knobs are all made from Ebony. It has nickel Grover tuners with tortoise buttons.
While certainly beautiful to look at, this guitar plays and sounds even better. Please check out the brief sound sample included in this listing. The Artinger's tone can be jazz warm and smooth or rock gritty and driven depending on your amp gain and the level of attack. This is one of those guitars that has multiple personalities making it a very flexible instrument!
While built in 2006, this beautify archtop remains in near mint condition. I almost missed it, but the bridge pickup cover has a scratch or two and a tiny impression which you can only see if you look quite closely (see photo). Otherwise, this guitar looks like new and the frets show no observable wear. It comes in it's original Cedar Creek case, also in excellent condition.
A guitar like this commissioned today would likely cost you well over $6K. Get this near mint 2006 work of luthier art for a third less than a new one. Just a magnificent semi-hollow electric. Make it yours!
