Not being an 80's guy, I always heard how well made the original BC Rich guitars were made but I never owned one. I thought the electronics were a bit to 80's and the aesthetic never really appealed to me. But I kept hearing how well made they were. So, I bought this Mockingbird. And, remarkably, it's really well made. I like the tone but I can live without the onboard preamp (which works). All the electronics work like new and the guitar is all original except for the bridge pickup. You get the original (DiMarzio Super Distortion) and you get its 80's replacement. The original seemed a little weak to me but they are so cheap, I didn't troubleshoot it, I just replaced it. This is the koa version with maple stringers. Neck is chunky and wide (very nice). The case is a Gibson (80's). A fun and functional vintage sleeper that will be a true collectible once Gen X wakes up and recognizes their heritage. And yes, that odd splice in the back of the headstock is factory. And there is a serial number - it's faint but its 80xxx.
