SALE PENDING: This is the last of three guitars ordered from Bagnasco & Casati of Savona, IT, one of the finest small batch shops building in the traditional prewar style. I won’t get my next instruments until late 2020 at the earliest. The materials and workmanship of this batch have been exquisite particularly the finish which Andreas calls their new “thin-skin”. This is a faithful reproduction of a 1936 Martin D-28 with all the signature features that came with that iconic guitar – Brazilian rosewood back and sides, herringbone trim, forward-X scalloped bracing, ebony fretboard and bridge, rosewood headstock overlay, mahogany neck with volute, and full-moon harvested Alpine spruce top, the European equivalent of Adirondack. Plain headstock with Waverly-made G-98 reproduction tuners. The neck captures the unique feels of the ’36; modified V with slightly bigger shoulders than the more widely known ’37. The nut is 1 ¾ and the string spacing is 2 3/8. The tone is open, resonant, nuanced and loud. The responsiveness is impressive even when fingerpicked. A fine instrument already that will continue to open up and improve as it’s played. Comes with a good quality hardshell case.
