Up for sale, a 1960's Baldwin Vibraslim semi-hollowbody bass in excellent, 100% original condition and in good working order. A tonally unique and visually striking bass (not to mention quite rare), this Vibraslim is all about thump! Strung with DR flatwound strings and featuring a 16 1/4" wide flame maple body constructed with a solid center block, the tone is actually closer to an upright bass than most electrics, with a fairly dry and percussive tone that decays rather quickly while still having plenty of body and thickness to the overall signal. Professionally setup and dialed in with ideal action and accurate intonation, this Vibraslim has weathered the decades well!

The maple neck has a chunky V shaped profile with a smooth gloss poly finish and enough roundness to the overall profile shape that the shoulders feel nice and full. The bound rosewood fretboard features pearl dot inlays and original frets that are stunningly clean, with well rounded crowns and virtually no wear. There is a small amount of relief in the neck which is quite straight overall and handles the high tension flatwound strings well across the 30 1/2" scale. The deep cutaways allow for easy access to all 22 frets, and the nut measures 1 11/16" in overall width. On the headstock, the original tuners still hold pitch and turn well, and the scroll-esque headstock shape is accented by the lucite "Vibraslim" badge and raised accents on the sides.

All of the electronics work as they should, with a Master Volume control on the treble side body horn and individual tone knobs for each Bar-o-Matik single coil pickup. This bass also features Baldwin's Rezo-tube tailpiece, which was a hallmark of the earlier Burns models before they were imported to the USA under the Baldwin name. The Rezo-tube concept relies on anchoring each individual string in its own metal tube for increased resonance and better string-to-string balance and clarity. Paired with a simple bar bridge, this tailpiece no doubt contributes to the Vibraslim's thick, plucky sound.

Cosmetically, this is an extremely well cared for vintage bass that retains the deep and consistent arch around the edges of the top, without any of the typical caving in or pulling at the bridge that is so common with hollowbody bass guitars. The three-tone burst highlights the flame maple figuring across the top and back of the instrument, which is further highlighted by nearly flawless chrome pickup surrounds, a minty bridge, and original transparent pickguard. There is prominent finish checking on the back, emanating from the neck plate, and very common with poly finished instruments manufactured in England in this era. Rest assured, this checking is purely in the finish and the bass is 100% structurally sound with no cracks or repairs of any kind! Aside form a few tiny chips on the binding edges, this bass is near mint and a stunning example of a classic Burns/Baldwin design!

The original hardshell case is included and also near mint.
