This is about as rare as it gets. Most likely custom ordered, we have found little info on this guitar.

Here's what we do know. It has a lightly figured, two piece quilted maple Tele style body. Although it's all maple it is not too bright (except, maybe, in smarts). It has two DiMarzio single coils and a tapped DiMarzio humbucker. The bridge is a top mount Kahler trem with string locks behind the nut.

The neck is maple with an ebony fretboard and BC Rich diamond inlays.

The serial number which is stamped in the headstock is 89506. As we all know BC Rich serial numbers that start with 89 were made in 1985 (just ask 'em). We did and here's the real mystery. BC Rich still keeps archives of their 1980s instruments. But their records show that #89506 was assigned to an Ironbird Bass.

BC Rich's (and our) guess that either the guitar is counterfeit (not likely, there is way to much BC Richness oozing from the guitar) or that the serial number archive is incorrect. This is quite possible. We've even seen it with the meticulous C. F. Martin company. We had a 1919 0-45 that was incorrectly annotated in Martin's archives and we were proudly involved in correcting that sacred tome.

So if you're a BC Rich collector you cannot pass on the one. If you just want a great USA made instrument that is one of a kind and comfortable in every genre you cannot pass on this one.
