Description

Here is a pre-owned, near mint condition circa 2006 Birdsong Corto Bass. A killer 3/4 size bass with superb playability and tone with a great look.

Manufacturer's Description:

All 17 years on the menu, and the one that started it all! Our original professional quality short scale bass; the bass that built Birdsong. Everything I wanted in a bass - without the size & weight. As a pro, I designed in the types of tones I’d need to cover all the music styles I had been playing as a bassist-for-hire, including backing up acoustic players - so there’s a wide variety of voices by design:

Neck pickup to give a woody, part upright tone. Blues, jazz, folk.

Bridge humbucker to be punchy but sweet. Rock, fusion, solo with the tone back.

Both together to be big, scooped like a J bass, but even fuller sounding. Great country rock tone.

Very balanced & comfortable. Barely longer overall than an electric guitar. Anyone wanting a real high quality bass that just happens to be smaller & easier to handle, THE choice since 2004.

Birdsong Guitars formalized & opened shop in 2004 after searching for an instrument that couldn't be found - a short scale bass that balanced, with full size tone, hand built to professional standards - with none of the issues of the "old classics" or other short scale basses cheaply made for students. Scott Beckwith built his first original design in the ‘90s, ultimately coming up with the ingredients for a really great little bass, the Cortobass. We built a company around it! it’s still being made and everything else we do is based off of it - with lots of hand work on small, workshop benches.
Workshop Crafted Since 2004

Birdsong basses are hand built out in the woods of the Texas “Hill Country.”

A peek onto the benches to see what’s in process? That’s the BUILDS page.

Warm passive tones, incredibly big sounding. We don’t offer active electronics.

1.5" nut width, 17.5 mm spacing at bridge, 14" radius (50 mm, 17 mm and 16” on 5 strings)

Pro-quality parts throughout, beautiful hand-rubbed oil natural finish.

The Corto Bass:
Still being built with only minor changes after 18 years, and the one that started it all! Anyone wanting a real high quality bass that just happens to be smaller & easier to handle, THE choice since 2004 - our original professional quality short scale bass. Everything I wanted in a bass, without the size & weight. Very balanced & barely longer overall than an electric guitar. As a pro, I built in the types of tones I’d need to cover all the music styles I had been playing as a bassist-for-hire, including backing up acoustic players - so there’s a wide variety of voices by design:

Neck pickup to give a woody, part upright tone. Blues, jazz, folk.
Bridge humbucker to be punchy but sweet. Rock, fusion, solo with the tone back.
Both together to be big, scooped like a J bass, but even fuller sounding. Great country rock tone.

Comes with a nice gig bag, too!
