The back story:
Bozo Podunavac was born and raised in Yugoslavia, in what is now Serbia. In his early years he served a 5-year apprenticeship in making and repairing stringed instruments with master luthier Milutin Miadenovic and graduated in 1950. Following a number of years work in Belgrade he left his home country in 1959 and moved to Chicago, where he worked in the repair department of a musical instrument dealer and manufacturer. His reputation as a master repairman and instrument maker grew and in 1964 he opened his own shop and began building guitars under the Bozo brand. His guitars draw on the traditions of his home land and are often highly ornate.

In the mid-1970s he moved to San Diego where he opened a workshop and school of lutherie.
During this time he "licensed" several of his designs to a Japanese firm, M.G. Company Inc. who was representing K.Yairi / Alvarez Yairi guitars, which proceeded to build "Bozo guitars" including the B60, B80, and B100 models, some with laminated back and sides, some all solid wood construction. The production of these guitars started in late 1974 and was terminated somewhere in 1984.

More recently he moved again to Florida where he still offers guitar services.

This made in Japan guitar is not an instrument you come across frequently. We must tell you, it sounds really good. Alive, resonant, balanced.

Who played Bozo Guitars? Jorma Kaukonen, Leo Kottke, Reverend Gary Davis, and Janis Ian just to mention a few.

Hard-shell case included.

“We carefully inspect every instrument when we buy it and bring it up to our standards before we offer it for sale. We also do a full set up before we ship. If you decide to purchase this guitar, please let us know what gauge strings you prefer.”

*Please note: we do our best giving descriptions of used pieces. We have found it impossible to describe every mark on an instrument or amp that is not in the "mint" category. Also, what's important to you may not be important to someone else. For example, you may say, "I don't care what it looks like as long as it plays or sounds well." Another person may say, "Body cosmetics are very important to me so tell me about every scratch, nick and blemish." So, please ask the questions that are most important to you. If you ask they will be answered. They are free and there's no limit. Additional photos can also be made available.

This is a specific item that is also being offered for sale in our brick & mortar location. It is possible that it has just been sold. Please ask if it is still available before purchasing.

*It is our policy to require a signature on delivery of all musical instruments. Please let us know if you prefer no signature required when ordering or we will automatically require a signature.

If you prefer your item to be sent without a required signature Imperial Guitar and the selected carrier can no longer be responsible for the security of the package once it has been delivered.
