1942 C. F. Martin 0-15 Natural (Mahogany), Excellent, Original Soft, Call For Price!

82375 – SALE PENDING. A very nice example of Martin’s simplest production model that was designed to meet the needs of a nation struggling to come out of depression. I’ve read that Martin prototyped a couple of these in birch and/or maple but decided on mahogany. An entry level or student guitar to some, the 0-15 would be a big step up for someone playing a birch flattops with a tailpiece. This one has a striking tone with a lively attack and gobs of sustain. The neck width at the nut is a shy 1-11/16” but capoed at the 4th fret, which is so often done by 0-15 fan Kenneth Pattengale, it feels like 1-¾”. It’s a 1942 from one of the batches that had the super cool faux-tortoise headstock overlay with scalloped x-bracing and tone bars, the v-shaped neck with the ebony reinforcement. It was refretted by Alan Perlman the San Francisco builder and repair wizard but the neck was not reset and never has been. The action is a very reasonable 6-64ths” on the bass side and a little lower on the treble. The nut is the original ebony. It’s a one owner guitar but it has been played. All the pick wear landed squarely on the guard – a dealer’s dream. There are a few little nicks and a very feint inside pick guard crack and light checking. Comes with the original chipboard case but if we are shipping let’s make an arrangement to ship in something sturdier.
