Description

SN: 57921. We’ve had some outstanding prewar 000-18s come through the door this year but none finer than this wicked cool “Mudburst” stamped on October 8, 1934. The guitar cleared inspection on June 26th 1935 and shipped to C.J. Magin Music in Belleville, IL later that year. The serial number indicates it is from the second batch of 000-18s with the T-bar, T-frets and short scale. While a Martin shaded top is always cause for celebration the real story is the exceptional playability, tone and originality of this one. It has been the recipient of much love over the years and that warm, fat, tone and wonderful clarity that is often accompanied by play wear and nicks. The guitar is remarkably straight and original; the bridge appears to have been reglued, there has been a very clean neck reset and the frets look fairly new finished in the old Martin height and style. This is a crack free example with the consistent (and persistent) wear pattern of a single player over a long period of time though it has had a couple of owners in the years I’ve known it. There is some slight divoting of the fingerboard in the first position. The action is medium low and it plays easily up and down the somewhat chunky neck. It’s the kind of guitar where I’ve often thought “why don’t I just keep this one?” and it’s been in my care for more than six months while I ponder this thought. But the stable is full and this one deserves a much better player than me. Ships with a TKL case with fuzzy black interior.
