Description

71501 – Beautifully seasoned Martin 000-18 with that classic woody mahogany warmth that is the signature sound of the prewar orchestra model. This one has many scratches on the back and sides and a moderate amount of playwear on the top but it’s architecturally sound and set up to play – especially fingerstyle. The Adi top has the prized fine grain throughout and is very responsive. Bridge plate and all bracing are original. Back of the neck is clean and without capo marks with the original Grover G-98 tuners. The nut width is 1 ¾” and string spacing at the bridge is a hair over 2 ¼”. I acquired the guitar through Italian artisan guitar luthiers Bagnasco & Casati who represented it for a client. The frets look like theirs. I believe there is a perfect repro bridge which might be their work also. This was owned by Andrew Marlin and Emily Franz of Mandolin Orange for a time and in their care it received some luthier love from their friends at Pre*War Guitars. It plays very smoothly up the neck with medium to low action with room to move either way. It’s one of those guitars where the sound comes from deep within the box with subtle overtones and balanced volume. Comes in a nearly new SCC (Superior Canadian Case) case that’s similar to a TKL.
