1944 C. F. Martin 000-28 Natural, Very Good, Hard, Call For Price!

SN 89080. This wonderful sounding and playing wartime 000-28 is just back from luthier Dennis Berck with a fresh neck set, refret, and new bridge. From the day I bought it I knew it would be special. Many of the ’44 Martins with Brazilian back and sides feature the book matched racing stripes in the grain, indicators of the so-called “magic log”. This is one of those. There is a zigzag center stripe and ivoroid cap on the heel. The Adirondack top is well checked and shows light to moderate play wear west of the fretboard. The body is bound top and back in ivoroid with herringbone trim around the top and a simple white and black rosette. Snowflake position markers adorn the 5th, 7th, 9th, 12th, and 15th frets. Ebony fingerboard and bridge. Nut is 1 11/16th with 2 1/8” string spacing at the bridge with a very comfy modified V profile. The guitar shows that milky look typical of ‘44 and early ’45. The finish is original as are the tuners – thin wartime flatbacks with plastic buttons. There is one shortish hairline in the top which Dennis repaired. It blends so well with the checking I cannot find it. Also, there’s an old timey hanger upper, the proverbial drilled hole in the headstock that Dennis filled with a mahogany dowel. Not invisible but is keeping in character with the patina. The reason to own this guitar is the tone – it is a thunderous rosewood express when flatpicked and a big warm cup of cocoa when fingerpicked. It has a lovely round deep bass and sweet, sweet trebles. Comes with a newer Martin Geib style case with the green interior.
