FON 86857: SALE PENDING Friends, now and then I come across a smaller bodied rosewood guitar whose voice absolutely sparkles. This is one. Three of these appear to have been cut from the same log. This is a wartime 000-28 with many songs under its belt and many more to come. There is plenty of honest pick wear and a few scratches and dents but it’s architecturally and structurally spot on. As my luthier says, a guitar like this can be underappreciated because of the playwear. The main characteristics are the Brazilian back and sides with the book matched racing stripes and the straight and narrow grain of the Adirondack top. Martin would switch to Sitka a year and a half or so after this guitar was built and it seems like they saved some of the best Adi tops for last. It has all the accoutrements of a prewar 28-style guitar – the herringbone trim, white binding top and back, ebony bridge and fretboard, snowflake and diamond inlays and volute on the back of the headstock. The neck is 1-11/16” at the nut and string spacing is 2-1/8”. Tuners are the original wartime flat backs. The X-brace is positioned to the rear and braces bars are scalloped. I’ve had some basic maintenance performed on my watch – a complete refret and full setup with new ivory saddle. All work by meticulously done by Mark Tossman. The action is dead solid perfect. Comes with a nice Cross Creek hardshell case.
