SN 189,091. The 000-28c is a larger bodied classical guitar introduced by Martin in 1961 and made in small numbers until it was discontinued in 1965. The model is prized for the elongated 20’s style 15” body and some of the finest Brazilian rosewood in Martin’s stash. They are fair classical instruments, fun to play as folk guitars, and make fine conversions to 12-fret, long scale steel string guitars – essentially a late 20’s 000-28 for a fraction of the money. This one is in fine shape with a few dings and playwear but no cracks or abuse, certainly more of a player than one that is crying for conversion. The book-matched rosewood back is lovely; straight grained with racing stripes, a “Morse code” fancy center strip of inlaid wood, and multi-ply ivoroid binding. The Sitka spruce top is multi-ply bound with b/w/b/w/b rosette. The twelve-fret neck has side position markers, slotted headstock, volute, 2” nut with 2 ¼” string spacing at the bridge. Medium play wear on the top, light scratching on the back. It's a ladder-braced guitar currently set up with nylon strings with a wound third string. They can also be set up with classical, gut, or silk and steel depending on preference and playing style. Come with an older case that is slightly large for it but does the job.
