1976 Martin D-18S #380313

This D-18 is one of 40 made in '76, toward the tail end of the popularity surge of the 12 fret models that started in the early 60s. Soon after this one was made 12 fretters would largely disappear from the Martin catalog in any numbers for until sometime in the mid-late 90s. This example has some miles on it but it is a solid player that needs nothing. The Sitka spruce top has one very small repaired crack beneath the replacement pickguard, under the B string but has no other cracks or repairs. The sides have a few short hairline crack repairs and the back has two repaired hairline cracks, one of about 7" in length and another of about 5". All repairs are tight, level and stable. The tuners have been replaced with Schallers. The original finish is in very good condition on the back, sides and neck, the top shows some play wear and crazing, some of the play wear is significant though there is not significant finish loss (see pics). The frets and fret board are in good shape. The original bridge is full height, unaltered and tight to the top. Inside all of the original bracing is secure and intact, needs nothing. The top is flat and stable under tension. The neck angle is good and the neck is very straight under tension, nut width is 1 7/8". The action is set at 7/64" at the low E and 6/64" at the high E (measurements at the 12th fret) with a hair less than 1/8" of saddle showing above the saddle slot. Intonation is good all over the neck. Sounds great fingerpicked or flat picked, big voice with good balance. The guitar has an LR Baggs I-Beam pickup installed. Bridge pins and nut are replaced, and there is a strap button added to the heel. Comes with a non-original hard shell case. $2000
