SN 154112: Friends, I’ve nicknamed this one “Hardly Strictly Bluegrass” because the guitar shows wonderful chordal blooming as well as that rifle-like response that is the trademark of a straight braced D-18. It’s a classic Martin mahogany workhouse that wears its 65 years very gracefully. The top is stripy Sitka spruce that is free of cracks, back and sides are mahogany with tortoise-like binding front and back. Fretboard and bridge are nice dark Brazilian rosewood. Fretboard markers are simple dots. There is one hairline crack about four inches long in the side that is glued and stabilized. There’s light playwear showing an honestly played guitar and a few scratches on the back. The top shows the kind of weather checking you’d expect and that handsome patina of old spruce. Tuners are the original Kluson Deluxe closed back machines that work well. The bridge pins are replacement ebony, typically not my favorite but the guitar sounds so good why change? In my care, it’s had a neck reset, fret dress and full setup with a new saddle. All recent work by Mark Tossman. The action is dead solid perfect. I took this guitar in trade from a studio pro from Nashville. It has many songs under its belt and many more to come. Comes with a 300 series hardshell case in good shape.
