2018 C. F. Martin D-28 Authentic 1937 with VTS Madagascar
SN – 2175215. One owner guitar purchased in 2018 from Gruhn Guitars in Nashville. The owner played it against many available and chose this one despite a factory setup that left a lot to be desired. He sent the guitar directly to Dennis Berck in Portland, OR who optimized the neck angle with a neck reset and complete compression fret job. Wow. The result is perfect intonation and unsurpassed playability worthy of the most discerning a pro player. In the D-28 Authentic 1937 Martin’s luthiers have succeeded in closely reproducing one of the most revered years and models in Martin history down to the details. The Vintage Tone System for aging the top and braces, the special lacquers, the hot hide glue construction, top grade tonewoods and attention to detail have produced a guitar that has great power, nuance and beauty. It rumbles and growls when it gets going, sustains for days, cuts through the jam and chords wonderfully. The detail and workmanship is meticulous. With the optimized setup by Berck and Martin’s combination of technology and old world construction, this particular example competes very favorably with the best modern luthier-built guitars – and surpasses many. Comes with the original Martin/TKL vintage style case with faux alligator exterior and padded cabernet interior. On consignment. Note that social distancing makes studio photography impossible.
