Description

SN 47793. Here is an early OM-18 with an interesting combination of features – banjo tuners, belly bridge, peghead decal, and large pickguard – clearly a guitar that was made right in the middle of the feature changes or one that remained “in the white” for a while during a slow time in the Great Depression. The guitar clearly shows some wear but it has an incredible voice and plays easily. As the previous owner said “it’s not going to win any beauty contests but sounds great”. It has recently been through the shop of TJ Thompson for a fret job, PLEK, and exact repro bridge. The neck angle is perfect. The ebony nut is intact. The action is a low 5/64ths on the bass side. There are no top cracks and three back cracks that have been brought flush and glued. The tuners are correct replacements that work very well. The finish has dulled overall from oxidation and there’s some chew around the sound hole but it is a ruggedly handsome instrument. The clarity of the tone and the articulation of the notes is remarkable. It has balance across all ranges, and a dry woody foundation with trebles that sparkle. Comes with a newer Ameritage 000-size case.
