1970 Martin 000-28 BRAZILIAN ROSEWOOD SN. 256751

Martin's oft-cited cut off for the use of Brazilian rosewood is #254498 in 1969. However, some all Brazilian guitars still were produced by Martin in '70 and '71. This 000-28 is one of those guitars. The Brazilian is gorgeous, brick red-orange in color with dark, inky grain lines and some spider web figure here and there. The guitar is in very good condition overall, no top cracks, the back has one well repaired hairline crack at the waist as does the treble side. The pickguard required replacement when the guitar arrived in the shop, as as improvement over the original black I replaced the guard with a tortoise guard salvaged from a wrecked 1954 000-28. The finish is original and in good condition all over the body and on much of the neck, it looks as if there may have been some finish touch up work done on the neck up near the first position area at some point in the past, likely to deal with play wear to the finish and original color. There are also three small spots of finish touch up on the top just below the bridge that are visible in some of the pics. The finish shows typical nicks and dings here and there, minor wear on the neck at the first position, and some light buckle rash on the back. No wear or dings through the finish into the wood. The neck is freshly reset and the bridge reglued. The original (small) rosewood bridge plate is in good condition as is all of the other interior bracing. Frets are in good shape, leveled and dressed after the reset. The neck is straight under tension. Action is set at 7/64" and 5/64" with a solid 1/8" of saddle showing, plenty to lower the action if desired. Intonation is good all over the neck. The nut width is 1 11/16" and the pin spacing is 2 1/8". The guitar has a loud, strong voice, sounds great. Comes with a case that is likely the original hard shell, it is in good condition with a replaced handle. Rare guitar. $5800
