New for 2018 is the fully-hollow I-30 LC, which shares the same body geometry as its sibling, the I-35, but is built with trestle bracing rather than a solid center block. The result is a very lightweight and acoustically responsive thinline electric that has excellent focus, feedback resistance, and a dynamic, touch-sensitive response. The Lollar P-90 pickups are the perfect match, offering a wide variety of tonal options to the player. The guitar can do biting trebles or jazzy warmth, and most anything in between, and offers the midrange presence P-90’s are known for. The neck pickup is unwound on this model to offer more versatility to that position on the switch. This example was ordered with a striking aged black finish with matching aged hardware set and a 3 ply bevelled pickguard. The tailpiece is a custom Collings-made part, designed to offer just the right string ‘give’ for a great feel. C-shaped neck with 12” fingerboard radius, 24-7/8” scale, and 1-11/16” nut width.
Collings went to great lengths to design the I-30 LC in such a way to be sure it was an incredibly versatile do-it-all guitar. From custom arching the laminate top and back plates, to inventing a bracing system that has nothing to do with Gibson’s original ES-330 (to which the I-30LC is inspired by) but offers the acoustic responsiveness they were after; and much in between. The guitar is a blast to play, with a quick and responsive archtop feel, ample sustain and feedback resistance, and some pretty incredible P-90 tone.
