Offered is this fabulous 2014 Collings I-35 Deluxe in Tobacco Sunburst nitro lacquer. The I-35 is of course Collings' take on the venerable Gibson ES semi-hollow. As with virtually every model they build, however, the Collings version is, many would agree, better than the original upon which it is based.
This guitar has a solid (not laminated) carved and an upgraded quilt Maple top with binding over a solid Mahogany body. The neck is Collings medium/fat C-shape, measuring .865" at the first fret, increasing to 1.00" at the twelfth fret. The fretboard is Madagascar Rosewood with parallelogram inlays and binding. The bone nut has a width of 1-11/16", the fretboard radius is 12" and the guitar weighs just 7.0 lbs. The electronics include Lollar low-wind humbuckers with a traditional 50's style wiring setup (2 vol/2 tone/3 way). The bridge and tailpiece are nickel-plated TonePros.
The build quality, playability and tone of this guitar is amazing. While many builders make a 335-style guitar, this is perhaps the best of all, regardless of price. It certainly has the tone you are looking for from a semi-hollow electric; fat and woody, perfect for blues, jazz, clean or driven. As for playability, Gibson can only dream of making a guitar that plays as smoothly as this I-35!
This superb instrument is in near mint condition, with no flaws of any significance, frets included. Included is the original Collings/Ameritage case and paperwork. It could easily be mistaken for a brand new one, which, with the upgraded quilt top, now costs over $7K. This near mint 2014 example can be yours for $2K less. Do yourself a huge favor and try a Collings I-35!
