Description

Anyone who watches this site knows how much we love Collings guitars and their I-35 line in particular. Offered is this unique I-35 Deluxe that was custom built to a players specification and completed in 2016.

For those unfamiliar with the various I-35 variations, this guitar, an I-35 Deluxe uses a solid carved wood top, back and sides as opposed to the laminated wood used on the LC models. Further, the I-35 Deluxe receives Collings' fanciest cosmetics and the resulting instrument is a work of fine art.

This custom guitar sports an upgraded "acid-wash charcoal burst" nitro finish that is very cool. To compliment the unique finish, it was ordered with an Ebony fingerboard, control knobs, tuner button and truss rod cover. Upgraded ThroBak pickups and fingerboard inlays were added as well. It has a Honduran Mahogany neck has Collings' medium/fat C neck shape which measures .870" deep at the first fret, .975" at the twelfth and feels great. The guitar has a 24-7/8" string scale, a 12" fretboard radius, medium frets abd a 1-11/16" bone nut. The guitar has a total weight of just 7 pounds, 5 ounces.

These guitars are lovely to play, hear and look at. Until you have played one of these, you cannot appreciate just how smooth and easy a guitar can play. The tone is awesome as well. These do clean and drive tones equally well and are suitable for every kind of music except perhaps for extremely loud heavy metal where feedback might become an issue . Check out the brief 'Soundcloud' sample below for just a taste of this guitar's voice.

Carelessness resulted in a tool being left in the case with the guitar at some point, leaving the top of this guitar with a nasty boo boo in the area where your right arm lays while playing. You can only see the flaws under the right light and from certain angles (see photo) but they are there. Aside from this unfortunate cosmetic flaw, this guitar is in superb condition and the frets show little wear. It comes in it's original Ameritage case, also in near mint condition.

With the included upgrades, having this guitar built for you today would total almost $8K. This guitar can be yours for substantially less. It has been discounted to reflect the top flaws, as otherwise I would be asking another $ grand for this beauty. If you can see beyond the cosmetic flaw, this is an incredible guitar at a great price.
