At Telluride Music Co., we are honored to be an Authorized Dealer of Collings guitars and mandolins. There is nothing quite like the subtle, sweet response and warm tone of an oval hole mandolin. In the early 20th century, many mandolins were built with oval soundholes, but as mandolin playing style and designs changed in the 1920s and 1930s, most mandolin builders began to prefer f-holes. Because of that, it can be difficult to find a a modern oval hole mandolin that fits the needs and demands of today's players. The Collings MT O does just that. This Collings MT O (serial #3443) sports a stunning black top finish that is beautifully accented with ivoroid top and soundhole binding. It features an Engelmann Spruce top and figured Maple back and sides, and unlike many prewar models, its top is X-braced, providing rich dynamics and guitar-like response. Collings also builds this model with a compound radius fingerboard, a short neck and a wider 1-3/16" nut width. This would be a great mandolin for old time fiddle tunes, swing, classical or Irish music, but it would also serve well in any folk setting where a warmer, richer and less-cutting mandolin sound is preferred.
