Description

"Simple perfection" is a term guitar reviewers have used to describe the Collings CJ35 and I couldn't agree more. Based, of course, on the 1930's era Gibson J-35, this Collings is a modern and exquisitely built version of the original short scale slope shoulder dreadnought.

This gorgeous guitar has: a select Sitka Spruce top with a lovely gloss sunburst finish; back and sides made of Mahogany and a Walnut backstrip; pre-war style, non-scalloped Adirondack bracing with three tone bars; a short 24-7/8" string scale for easy playability; a 14-frets clear Mahogany neck with a vintage-style neck carve with depth measurements of .845" at the first fret, .98" at the ninth fret and string spacing of 2-3/16"; an Ebony fretboard with 14-26" compound radius and 1-11/16" bone nut; and nickel Waverly tuners.

This instrument is resonate, lively and loud. It is a Collings-built canon with a bit of vintage Gibson vibe and tone but with a build quality you will not find on any Gibson, old or new. The sound is clear, with extra emphasis on the low and middle registers. Please check out the brief sound sample included . The setup is superb, with 12th fret string heights of 6/64" on the low E side and 4/64" on the high E side.

This sunburst beauty was completed in June of 2017 and remains in near mint condition and could likely pass for new, frets included. It comes with it's original Collings/TKL case in similarly nice condition.

If you are looking for both power and clarity, this may be the guitar for you. Another incredible instrument from Collings Guitars. Highly recommended!
