2001 Collings SJ SB Full Body Sunburst, Very Good, Original Hard, $3,299.00
Offered for sale is this Collings Super Jumbo from 2001. The SJ is of course Bill Collings' take on Gibson's classic J185 and is a guitar many feel is much better than the original upon which it is based.
The features of this fine instrument include: a Sitka Spruce top with back, sides and neck made of highly figured European Maple. It is finished in a full-body nitrocellulose lacquer gloss sunburst finish. It it is tastefully decorated with ivoroid bindings, black and white purflings and a Chevron style backstrip. Both the fretboard and bridge are black Ebony. The 14-fret neck has a 25-1/2" scale, 14"-26" compound radius, 1-11/16" bone nut and medium frets. The neck is nice C-shape with depth measurements of .85" at the first fret, increasing to .94" at the twelfth fret. The saddle is bone with 2-3/16" string spacing. The body is 20-1/8" long, 4-1/2" deep and 16" wide at the lower bout. It is equipped with a Fishman acoustic pickup with sound-hole mounted volume and tone controls.
This is a big guitar with a huge voice and it makes both a visual and a sonic statement. If you want to be seen and heard, this is the instrument for you. This guitar plays with great ease, despite it's 16 years of age. It is set up for strumming with 9th fret string heights of 6.5/64" on the low E side and 5/64" on the high E side. The tone is big, full and balanced; check out the short sound sample provided and I think you will agree.
This one owner guitar has been well-played, but also well-maintained and humidified consistently. As shown in the photos provided, it shows it's share of cosmetic wear from being gigged over the years and will likely appeal primarily to the working musician. That said, it looks beautiful and plays and sounds great. The frets remain in superb condition (see photo) with years of music productivity ahead of them. It comes in it's original Collings/TKL case, also in very good condition.

Refunds of the original purchase price less shipping and a 10% restocking fee may be requested within 48 hours of delivery.
