Description

Offered is this spectacular Collings Soco Deluxe in Amber Sunburst finish. This beauty was built in 2008 for Elderly Instruments and remains in great condition.

This guitar has a solid, not laminated, premium flame Maple top on a semi-hollow Mahogany body with an Alder center block and Mahogany neck. It is 15" wide at the lower bout as on their I-35 models (Collings also makes a larger, 16" version of the Soco). It is finished in nitrocellulose lacquer and weighs just 7 pounds, 2 ounces. It has a short, 24-7/8" string scale and a nice medium/chunky C-shaped neck with measurements of .865" at the first fret increasing to .975" at the twelfth fret. It has a gorgeous Madagascar Rosewood fretboard with a 12" radius, a 1-11/16" nut width and Mother of Pearl parallelogram fretboard inlays. The electronics include Lollar Low Wind Imperials, 500K DiMarzio pots and Jupiter Vintage Yellow caps. As a "Deluxe" model it has Collings' top-of-the-line cosmetics, including body, neck and headstock binding with ivoroid control knobs. The tuners are the original Sperzels, but the ivoroid buttons on these early Sperzels could be problematic so they have been replaced with nickel buttons. The tuner buttons aside, this guitar is completely original.

Like it's sister model, the I-35, this guitar has a voice that can be clear, warm or biting, depending on the level of attack and gain. It is an incredibly flexible instrument that can do jazz, country, rock or whatever you need it do do. As a Collings, it is built as though carved from a single piece of lumber. The playability, tone and build quality are beyond reproach. Please check out the brief sound sample provided.

While built in 2008, this guitar remains in great shape, what I call "Excellent Minus" condition. It shows some very faint scratches which are pictured. The frets remain in great condition and show little to no evidence of wear. It comes in its original TKL case which remains in very good condition.

A new example of this guitar will cost you $8K at current prices, but this lovely 2008 example can be had for $3K less. Make this marvelous Collings Soco yours today!
