Retrofret Stock # 8346. Waterloo WL-12 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar, made by Collings (2017), made in Austin, TX, serial # 1357, sunburst top, dark back and sides finish, maple back and sides, spruce top, mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, original black tolex hard shell case. This guitar is one of the best examples of the new wave of "Vintage semi-reissue" instruments out there. Here's how the builder Collings tells the story: "The WL-12 is a new variation on the flagship WL-14 that brings together the elements of maple back and sides, vintage x-bracing, and 12-fret construction to create an entirely new Waterloo experience. By joining the neck to the body at the 12th fret, the bridge is positioned closer to the center of the lower bout, producing a rich and open tone with stronger low end response than you would typically expect from a parlor-sized guitar. Maple back/sides make for the perfect tonal compliment to the body design, adding focus, projection, and a pronounced front-end attack that is sure to inspire players of nearly any acoustic genre. All WL-12 models feature a moderate oval-shaped neck profile with a fully adjustable truss rod, drop-in saddle, and a vintage-style sunburst finish." Basically a modern take on the Gibson HG-00 from 1937 with Kalamazoo-style trim, we feel this 12-fret model is the best sounding of these "retro-styled" instruments yet offered and a nice example of what a thoughtful re-imagining of a classic can be. This hardly-used example makes for a very fine USA-made solid wood instrument for the price.Overall length is 38 in. (96.5 cm.), 14 5/8 in. (37.1 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 3/8 in. (11.1 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.). This guitar presents as near new vith virtually no visible play wear. An excellent playing instrument, includes a the original hardshell case in similar condition with some handling marks. Near Mint Condition.
