Crane Song Avocet IIA Monitor Controller with QUANTUM D/A

Description:

Need a back end to your DAW? Featuring one of the best D/A converters, cue mixes, a remote control, plenty of IO and a killer headphone amp - this IS the answer to your monitoring problems!

What we think:

The Avocet is the centerpiece of Sound Pure Studios.  All of our decisions are made in part because of the D/A conversion and the accuracy of this monitoring system.  Whether we are tracking, mixing, doing shootouts or testing gear, we know that with the Avocet doing the work, all of our decisions will not be colored or skewed because of the monitoring chain.

Dave Hill of Crane Song has long been known as a genius here at our shop, and hopefully anyone reading this has experienced at least one of his units in your studio.  At Crane Song (and Dave Hill Designs), there is a policy of no compromise in every unit that they create, and then they also build in the ability to "upgrade" parts if they have a shelf life.  In the case of the Avocet, the Converters have been upgraded every couple of years as Dave has improved the design with the improvements in the technology.  Everything from Jitter, to self noise, to detail; the Avocet has been built to translate your audio in the purest way possible.

If you are in the market for the best monitoring solution, this is it, you can stop searching.  We are happy to send this out to try, as you really need to hear the difference it makes when it comes time to make critical decisions with your work.

Manufacturer Description:

New DAC

The Quantum DAC is the 5th generation design from Crane Song and has less then 1pS jitter.

The Quantum DAC uses 32 bit a converter and ASRC for jitter reduction up sampling to 211KHz. Avocet has always upsampled to 211KHz.  The reference clock has less then 1pS, 0.5pS typical 1Hz to 100KHz and a proprietary reconstruction filter for accurate time domain response.

New

Direct sub woofer outputs for each of the three output have been added.

The output levels are now programmable in 0.25 db steps for speaker level matching

Avocet  IIA is designed to solve the problems of accurate monitoring and volume control as required by workstation users, studios and mastering rooms alike. It is a stereo controller with three digital inputs, three analog inputs and a headphone system. It's comprised of a rack mounted unit and table top remote control. Avocet has many features including; dim, mute, phase, mono, and 16 bit truncation functions, plus a speaker select switch that sends line level balanced audio to one of three outputs. The six input sources have on the fly gain trim capability and all digital signals are up-sampled and jitter reduced to ensure highest accuracy during D/A conversion.

Avocet can operate in surround up to 7.1, with the appropriate number of audio boxes in the system.

The 4th Generation D/A for Avocet uses an extremely low jitter reference for jitter reduction and a unique combination of analog and digital reconstruction filters. The reference oscillator uses techniques that are borrowed from microwave communication and test instruments in it’s design, and is the result of 2 years of research. The DAC is the latest generation AKM 32 bit part.

The result is a DAC with unsurpassed imaging and transit response. This is integrated into Avocet’sanalog electronics and digital control systems.

The difference between Avocet and Avocet II is the DAC
