Description

This 1969 Danelectro Electric Sitar with original hardshell case is in excellent condition. Neck and frets are fine, the instrument is fully functional.
This is not a recreation or re-issue, this is the original version. "Now you can create the hit recording sounds of the Turtles, Lovin' Spoonful, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Richie Havens, Gabor Szabo [Fast forward to the 1970s: The Stylistics. Fast forward to the 21st Century: D'Angelo] and countless others with the new Danelectro Electric Sitar. The action is so fluid and the sound so great. Any guitarist can play sitar in no time at all. The Sitarmatic bridge is the source of the sitar sound... Famous fast action Danelectro neck and convenient chrome plated lap mount make this the new outstanding instrument for 1969... Shouldn't you be a Sitarnick?" (We love referring back to the original promotional text!)

These somewhat unusually shaped instruments can achieve a true sitar sound by anyone who plays an electric guitar. Unlike the complex Indian Sitar, this one plays chords as well as melody. The Sitarmatic bridge is of unique design with a compound curve surface which permits adjustment of action and open string length without affecting the characteristic “twang”
of the sitar sound.

Featuring a Maple body and bolt-on neck with 21 frets and a unique thermometer-like headstock with “Danelectro” in silver block letters. Some research sources state that these were originally fitted with an aluminum nut, this instrument is fitted with a brass nut that appears to be original. The quintessential lipstick tube pickup is featured along with a white pickguard with a painted design around the edge, volume and tone controls and a leg rest. Recording artists that have featured the Electric Sitar include the likes of: The Boxtops (“Cry Like a Baby”), Chad and Jeremy, Every Mother’s Son, Joe Pass, Spanky and Our Gang,Frankie Valli, The Who, Steely Dan, “I Was Made to Love Her” by Stevie Wonder and the hit “Hooked on a Feeling,” More contemporary artists that have utilized a sitar or sitar simulated tone include Todd Rundgren, Eric Johnson, Santana, Pearl Jam, Pat Metheny (“Last Train Home”), Steve Vai, Rory Gallagher, Steve Miller, Van Halen (“Ain’t Talkin’ ‘bout Love”), Metallica (“Where ever I May Roam”), Lenny Kravitz, Oasis, REM, and Alice in Chains.

When you consider how many times this sound has appeared in modern musical culture it begs to ask the question: Shouldn't you be a Sitarnick?"

**Please note: we do our best giving descriptions of used pieces. We have found it impossible to describe every mark on an instrument or amp that is not in the "mint" category. Also, what's important to you may not be important to
someone else. For example, you may say, "I don't care what it looks like as long as it plays or sounds well." Another person may say, Body cosmetics are very important to me so tell me about every scratch, nick and blemish." So, please ask the questions that are most important to you. If you ask they will be answered. They are free and there's no limit. Additional photos can also be made available.
