Retrofret Stock # 4100. Danelectro Shorthorn Model 3612 Model Electric 6-String Bass Guitar (1962), made in Neptune, NJ, serial # 4062, bronze lacquer finish, masonite and pine body, poplar neck with rosewood fingerboard, original brown soft shell case. A nice original example of a rare Danelectro. While the "shorthorn" guitar and bass are fairly common as old Dan-o's go, this 6-string bass is a much more difficult find. This copper-top beauty has all the "classic" Dan-o features: semi-hollow masonite and pine body, vinyl side covering, top-mounted Masonite pickguard, and a single lipstick tube pickup with tone and volume controls and 3-way tone modifier switch. The short 15-fret neck has a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, "coke bottle" headstock with vertical logo, openback Waverly tuners, and the Danelectro "totally shielded" sticker. Great-sounding with the classic Dan-o twang factor, even with just the single pickup.Overall length is 38 3/4 in. (98.4 cm.), 13 1/4 in. (33.7 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 3/4 in. (4.4 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 29 7/16 in. (748 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.). All original except perfect repro aluminum nut; bridge is notched on rear in two extra spots. Some minor paint wear (mostly to the back of the neck) but overall a very nice example. Includes the original chipboard case, intact but with the plastic handle broken. Excellent Condition.
