Description

1965/66 D'Aquisto 16" Electric Serial # 1001 with OHSC & Period Gibson Pat # Humbucking Pickups, Electronics and Gold Knobs. Serial # 1001 is Written inside the body and Stamped under the Tailpiece (see photos). This guitar was the subject of a One Page article in Guitar Player Magazine in 1999. In it the article suggests that it is James D'Aquistos first serial numbered United body laminated electric. James had finished a number of left over D'Angelico United body electrics but this was the first to highlight some of his own unique designs such as the "S" Shaped Soundholes, early non-stairstep DAQ tailpiece, tortoise pickguard and a hand carved Flame Maple Neck & Bridge as found on James' fully Carved Archtops. Guitar features a 16" Laminated United Body, One Piece Flame Maple neck, Ebony Fingerboard with Pearl Block Inlay, Zero Fret, 25 1/2" Scale length & 1 11/16" Nut width. The guitars Body has been freshly rebound by LeRoy Aiello of Aiello Guitars Pt Pleasant NJ. The original binding deteriorated over the last 10 years or so and did effect the edges of the guitars finish around most of the top and back (see photos). There are two truss rod covers with this guitar, the pearl one that has been on it since at least 1999 when the GP article was written and a warped 2 ply black/white plastic one in the case as well as the guitars original nut. Plays effortlessly with a wonderful tone thanks to James' legendary workmanship and the Gibson Pickups & Electronics. D'Aquisto later switched to Guild Humbuckers for his electrics. This is one very important D'Aquisto offering and like all the Electrics he made between 1965-'67 is Extremely Rare!! An Incredible Piece of Archtop History!! Includes original Period Black Orange lined Hard Shell Case. Price Firm.
The Original June 1999 Guitar Player magazine Article Page is included with the guitar.
